Alfonso Cuaron delivers a pretty intense thriller as two astronauts played by Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are desperate to find their way back into their shuttle when an unexpected event leaves them stranded. Gravity is an epic thrill ride that starts and never ends. I have not felt continued tension like this film in some time. The entire movie is so isolated and desperate, it is incredibly immersive. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The script is a bit rough at times, a large portion of the dialogue does not seem realistic and can come off as corny, especially with George Clooney's character. Overall, it is short, face paced, thrilling and seeing it in 3D was breathtaking. I would highly recommend it!

The best way to approach this movie is to view it as a video recording of a really high-budget Broadway production of Chicago, because that's close to what it actually is. It never feels like a movie: the sets look fake, the dialogue is cheesy, and the costumes are way over the top. Of course, this is part of the charm of a Broadway show, so viewing it in this way makes it much more palatable. On the flip side, though, this forced the comparison between the movie and the actual Broadway show, which is, undoubtedly, a masterpiece. The movie is a good reproduction, but it doesn't quite capture the magic. Though this adaptation has effectively trimmed the musical down to a movie length without losing much, and has some incredible choreography, it suffers from unnecessary plot complications. Though no replacement for the Broadway production, Chicago's film adaptation is competent and enjoyable.

This was a really fun watch. At no point does it take itself seriously and is basically a satire of the foodie/food critic industry and how pretentious it can be. Going into it I was expecting a horror film, but it was much more of a suspenseful thriller. The best part is the back and forth between Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes, each trying to outdo each other mentally especially in the final scene which was done to perfection. Also, Fiennes plays the psycho, Chef Slowik incredibly well. The only thing is, after a while it started to get predictable. However, at a time where there aren't many original films, this one is fantastic. It provided several hilarious moments, does an amazing job at building suspense and the acting is on point. Definitely worth seeing.

Avatar: The Way of Water was a bit of a disappointment because my expectations were so high. Though it's good in its own right, it's not the presentation the original was. In the first movie, we were mostly introduced to the forest environment and animals as part of action sequences. This one spends a lot of dull moments familiarizing us with life in the water. That being said, Avatar: The Way of Water is visually stunning. It has a predictable script and it lags during those long dull moments. Also, I still had some questions: If our villain was killed in the first movie, how did we end up with him as an avatar, not to mention visions of "Luke, I am your father" washed over me when we realize who Spider's related to, and: When did Sigourney Weaver have a baby? It benefits from a cast capable of making this sci-fi environment and the story believable. The visuals are stunning and the CGI is incredible. The movie allows the viewer to suspend disbelief and immerse themselves in a world totally foreign to us earthlings.

One of the weaker music biopics I've seen from the post-Bohemian Rhapsody era, Naomi Ackie delivers a terrific performance as Whitney Houston, has its share of well-executed dramatic moments and hey, I can admire a film that left some audiences feeling educated, mainly that Houston was bisexual. But the issue with I Wanna Dance with Somebody is that it feels like a clichéd, "going-through-the-motions" type of film without doing anything to make itself more unique and interesting like with Rocketman and Elvis. I might as well have read Houston's Wikipedia page for all the difference it would've made. It doesn't help that the pacing is quite fast making this two-hour-and-twenty-minute-long film feel shorter than it actually is. I don't hate this film, I wouldn't go as far as to call it a film that was made solely for a paycheck but on the whole, I thought this was an underwhelming film that isn't quite the compelling fact-based drama it clearly wants to be.
